40,000 Health Professionals will Volunteer as Part of the State’s Surge Healthcare Force

Another day, Another Hero – or, rather, 40,000 heroes and counting

New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that to date (late March), there were 40,000 health professionals that have signed up to volunteer as part of the state’s surge healthcare force. This is inclusive of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other medical professionals. This also included students as well as retirees.

Of those 40,000 health professionals, 6,000 mental health professionals have volunteered to provide free online mental health services for the state of New York. Interested in scheduling an appointment? Call 844-863-9314.

The team consists of:

  • 2,265 doctors
  • 16,367 registered nurses
  • 160 respiratory therapists
  • 6,000 mental health professionals
  • Amongst many more health professionals willing to lend a helping hand

Aside from this, more retired, and student professionals are expected to sign up in the coming weeks.

Cuomo mentions, “It’s a big, big deal, you can create beds. You can find the equipment. You have to have the staff.”

Thanks to these volunteers, medical professionals can take a break to sip a drink of water or even rest their eyes. This volunteer force leaves room for existing staff to take a breather from all that’s happening around them daily.

Kudos to these heroes in their selflessness to lend a helping hand. New York is appreciative of all the hard work that is going into saving lives and giving the people hope to be able to see another day.
